What Are Prerequisite Courses?

Prerequisites are mandatory class requirements that must be completed before you can enroll in a more advanced class. For example, in order to enroll in KIN 303 Physiology of Exercise, you must first take Anatomy I (BSC 215). BSC 215 is considered a prerequisite for KIN 303. The class will have a blue clipboard icon if there is a prerequisite for it. You can click on the class to view the prerequisite details. There are times when you may need to register for a class, and you haven’t completed the prerequisite at the time of registration, but you will have the prerequisite course completed by the time the class starts. For example, you may plan to take BSC 215 during the summer, but you are planning to take KIN 303 in the fall. In this case, you will need a prerequisite override to register for KIN 303 for the fall since you won’t be taking BSC 216 until the summer. If you need a prerequisite override for a Kinesiology course, you may complete the Permit Override Form. If you need a prerequisite override for a class in another department, Biology, Chemistry, etc, you will have to contact that department and follow their procedures for requesting an override.
